Title : Prevent and Manage OR Fires
Speaker : Sue Dill

Webplay Recording Date : 4-10-2014

Webinar Overview:
Could your patient catch fire during surgery? Many hospitals that had an OR fire didn’t think it would happen to them. There are an estimated 550 to 650 surgical fires per year in operating rooms in the US. If a fire occurred in your operating room would staff know what to do? It is estimated that fewer than half of the hospitals in the country conduct operating room drills to prevent and control fires. Does your time out include an analysis of the risk of fire? Does your circulating and scrub nurses know their responsibilities to either prevent or manage an OR fire? Do you know what the evidenced based standards say you should be doing now? This is a very important safety issue that all hospitals should be aware.
